Good afternoon,
I had a few questions regarding the faith of Mar Thoma. Coming from someone who is aware but not fully educated on the principles of Mar Thoma I would like help from the community to better understand the religion.
I wanted to find out what is the difference between Pentecost and Mar Thoma. Are there different liturgy and canons? When the Manthrakodi (wedding) is done there is a chant done so I’ve been told. What is the chant? Is it necessary to have the chant (if there is one) when conducting the Manthrakodi ceremony?
Why do Pentecostals (Malayalees) not revere/accept or particularly want their son or daughter to marry outside of their religion into Mar Thoma or even Catholic? Is there some general idea of the reasoning why that goes beyond religious differences? Not all Mar Thomites/Catholics but some of my friends have shared great discontent to the faith of Pentecost and have not regarded them to be a part of the Malayalee community. Why do you think this is the case?
Please share open, honest, and tactful discussion on this without offending anyone.
