anyone here belong to a catholic motorcycle ministry? I have very interested in joining one. I was part of CMA back in my protestant days.

I don’t, but I know there are some out there (even with some priests joining) and I’ve always thought they were a cool idea.

There’s a group of men at the St. Vitus FSSP Parish in San Fernando, California that semi-regularly go on biking tours together (usually to visit a shrine or chapel or something). But I don’t know where you live so unless it’s the LA or surrounding area, that’s probably not going to help you very much.

There is nothing inherently wrong about motorcycles. People riding them legally/safely who have been trained to safely operate this type of vehicle would be fine. People are more likely to die in cars then flying, so are we surprised the Church doesn’t speak out against automobiles in favor of aircraft?

By that reasoning, Catholics also shouldn’t climb mountains. Yet saints and Popes have done so in a serious manner. One Pope has a peak named after him due to his having climbed it (before he was Pope).

Respect for life doesn’t mean you need to wrap up in cotton wool and avoid all risk. It does mean you act prudently in accordance with your station in life. A Catholic motorcyclist would be expected to follow the laws and safety rules, have appropriate maintenance done, and get necessary training and certification to ride responsibly. In some parts of the world, priests actually rely on motorcycles to get around in their diocese.

More people die in their own bathrooms.
Yours is an asinine comment.

I’m glad to hear that’s still going on. I read about it some years ago. One of the original cyclists who founded it appeared to be from my old parish and neighborhood.

Maybe…
As a community, often locally, parents, parishes organize talks or meetings in relation to topics that affect that community. Particularly when it affects the young members such as alcohol, drugs , “ nightlife” out of control , as is driving in such a state of intoxication…so… there you have the Church participating through their members and schools ,us.

As far as motorbikes, there are safe riding courses. And also safer places where to ride. We had our motorbikes and went for a ride with the priest who owned one and other parishioners. We picked safe and beautiful country roads .
Not a ministry there though.
True is that motorbikes take extra care in the sense that your body is more exposed.
One has to be mindful even when swimming for example and know the limits and characteristics of the place as well.

I once met a couple Knights of Columbus who were bikers. They were cool.

An even stronger case for pro-life action can me made here, at least for the more serious kind of mountain climbing. Surely it would not be ‘prudent’ as you put it for a Catholic to climb Everest, which is littered with the bodies of others who have failed in the attempt? And I thought you rejected the idea that if Popes do it it is somehow a part of Catholic teaching?

FiveLinden, you’ve received common sense answers already in the thread.

The OP asked for information on Catholic motorcycle clubs. He didn’t intend to start a debate on the morality of Catholics riding motorcycles, which the Church doesn’t have a problem with if the Catholic acts reasonably and prudently.

Your questions are taking the thread way off topic and are coming close to sea lioning. If you want to have a general discussion of the moral theology of Catholics engaging in behaviors you deem risky, please observe basic forum etiquette and go start a new thread in the appropriate section and allow the OP to continue, without disruption, the discussion he wanted to have on Catholic motorcycle clubs.

Knights on Bikes which are Knights of Columbus…not sure if there but you can check on their site

One point, it’s a Ministry not a club. Location doesn’t matter. There are members around the globe who are the only one in their country. I think we just voted in a new member from VA they may be nearby.

I know of Catholic Cross Bearers. I had been looking to join a year ago, but don’t know much about them.

Yes of course its a ministry. I would prefer a ministry of brotherhood and not to be a sole member in my state. I really enjoyed the community with CMA when I was in that ministry years ago
