hello,
i have a question about different movements…are they considered catholic…i know people in this movement called the BNP or banal na pagaraal. It is a filipino movement where they beleive this lady who started it had this miracle with her 1st husband back in the 60’s. she basically was abused really badly till one day she said God came and talked to her, and now she has this big following where once in a while she says she can talk to God and during times can bring God to church. The people in this movement are Catholic, as they also goto my Catholic church and they beleive everything about catholicism, but they have this extra thing that they beleive in…do you consider them catholic or no?
thanks

I have absolutely no info on this movement, but I do know from the many Filipinos here that there are dozens of devotions based on supposed visionaries and miracles that have sprung up recently there, all of which have been condemned and contain anti-Catholic elements. I would ignore it unless and untll you get genuine confirmation from the bishop where the alleged movement arose that it is approved.

so if i wanted to marry somone of this nature, would i be able to consider them catholic, or would they be considered non catholic? its plaguing me as im thinking of whether to marry a person from this movement and i want to know if theyre truly catholic…this person considers themself catholic, but i dont know.

there is no way of knowing without knowing what this movement professes and how it agrees with the Catholic faith, and how strong this person’s attachment is to the movement. See your priest.
