There are a couple of things that have always puzzled me since childhood and which have never been satisfactorily explained to me. I am hoping some of you can shed some light please.
The Bible clearly states that heaven and earth shall pass away:
’Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away…’ Revelation 21:1-2 and
‘Heaven and earth will pass away, but my word will not pass away’ Matt 24:35
Why then do we say ’ as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end’?
One other thing:
Why do we receive ash on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday in direct contradiction to the words of Jesus when he said:
“And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have had their reward’.
Matt 6:16
Any explanations?
