Maybe if his Bishop won’t do anything then Msgr. Ranjinth will.

I thought the prohibition of priests in politics came from Rome. Does a bishop have the power to waive the prohibition?. . .faced heated opposition however from Bloc MP Raymond Gravel, a Catholic priest who was given permission to enter politics by his Bishop - Gilles Lussier of the diocese of Joliette.
Talk about undermining the pro-life movement… a priest Member of Parliament saying that prolifers are extreme? Reading this is almost too much to bear…lifesite.net/ldn/2007/dec/07121305.html

Apparently the Bishop can invoke some rare power to allow the Priest to do it. I am not certain on the details but I find it just so disgusting.I thought the prohibition of priests in politics came from Rome. Does a bishop have the power to waive the prohibition?
Nice to know he keeps his promises…The priest who had promised his Bishop before entering politics that he would not take positions that went against the doctrines of the Church, added…
Gravel accused the pro-life group Campaign Life Coalition of lacking in love and compassion. “I’m opposed to the pro-life group, just as I am opposed to the pro-choice group,” he said. “We have to be moderate in this.”
Despite Fr. Gravel’s claims to be moderate however, by opposing the legislation he falls into a minority group even among abortion supporters in Canada. An Environics poll released in October 2007 found that 72% of Canadians - 75% of women - would support “legislation making it a separate crime to injure or kill a foetus during an attack on the mother.”
He’s not even in the mainstream!! He calls it a moderate position, even though a majority of pro-choicers even agree with the legislation.Even among those Canadians who support unrestricted abortion for the full nine months of pregnancy, 55% support “legislation making it a separate crime to injure or kill a foetus during an attack on the mother.”
It seems a bit mysterious. Apparently, Fr. Gravel gave up his exercise of priestly duties for the duration of his time as a politician.I thought the prohibition of priests in politics came from Rome. Does a bishop have the power to waive the prohibition?
"There’s no green light,’’ said Most Rev. Gilles Lussier, the Bishop of Joliette, in a recent statement. "The Bishop of Joliette has not received any permission on the part of authorities in Rome concerning the project of Rev. Raymond Gravel.
"Church law is clear: all priests must abstain from all political activities.’’
An exemption under the rules of canon law is always possible but Lussier said there is nothing in the present case to justify that.
ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20061106/bq_priest_061106/20061106?hub=Politics"In making the choice to take an active part in a political party, Rev. Gravel has maintained his clerical state but he has been relieved of the exercise of his sacred ministry,’’ stated Lussier, who pointed out that "giving up’’ the exercise of priestly duties "always represents a painful situation for the Church.’’
That’s what he said…Speaking in French, Gravel acknowledged that the murder of a pregnant woman is abominable. “But,” he added, “at the same time when the fetus is still in the mother they’re just one being. Its only when the fetus is born is when it becomes another being, when it becomes a human being.”
And that’s all there is to it. Prayer is the most powerful weapon on earth…use it!2274 Since it must be treated from conception as a person, the embryo must be defended in its integrity, cared for, and healed, as far as possible, like any other human being.
Prenatal diagnosis is morally licit, "if it respects the life and integrity of the embryo and the human fetus and is directed toward its safe guarding or healing as an individual. . . . It is gravely opposed to the moral law when this is done with the thought of possibly inducing an abortion, depending upon the results: a diagnosis must not be the equivalent of a death sentence."82
Sorry to disagree with you Ellen. I think he needs to be laicized so he can follow his true calling; that of a Democrat politician. So, by this priest’s logic, Jesus was just a part of Mary until His birth (not God the Son Incarnate from the moment of His conception). So, not only is he dissenting from Church teaching on the abortion issue, he’s embracing heresy in a number of ways (Jesus not existing until His birth-why, exactly, do we celebrate the Annunciation?, Scripture being wrong, as Elizabeth clearly recognized Christ as a separate person from Mary, it could go on and on). He needs to be called to Rome and “dealt with”
.
In Christ,
Ellen
A totally unsubstantiated allegation from a website on which anyone can say anything about anyone without any documentation. More importantly, even if the allegation is accurate it is irrelevant to the current discussion. The issues at hand are dire enough without muddying the discourse with personal attacks.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Gravel
This sodomite Judas apostle worked as a gay prostitute at one point!
Actually one of the first things to do when verifying truth is to look at the trustworthiness of the person in question’s character. Happens in legal proceedings all the time.A totally unsubstantiated allegation from a website on which anyone can say anything about anyone without any documentation. More importantly, even if the allegation is accurate it is irrelevant to the current discussion. The issues at hand are dire enough without muddying the discourse with personal attacks.

You would think that someone who had so much to thank God for, after such an extreme conversion, would be more loyalcwnews.com/offtherecord/offtherecord.cfm?task=singledisplay&recnum=3873
"Raymond Gravel (above) spent the first decade of adult life working the gay bars as a prostitute."
