Catholic Prophecy Commentators and/or Researchers?

I’ve been looking for some good Catholic commentators/researchers on bible prophecy but haven’t found much. If anyone knows any good researcher or commentator on the subjects of biblical prophecy please post them here!

Most of the bible prophecy researchers online are Protestant, which of course isn’t a bad thing (and many of them are good), …but I’m tired of hearing the tired old sayings like the Vatican is the whore of Babylon, pre-tribulation Rapture, and all Catholics need to get “saved” etc etc etc…

St. Victorinus of Poetovius (Pettau/Poetovio), Commentary on the Apocalypse:
An old translation from one manuscript trail. A new translation from another one.

St. Bede the Venerable (aka the Venerable Bede), Explanation of the Apocalypse.

St. Primasius of Hadrumetum, St. Apringius of Beja, and many many later Catholic writers all have good commentaries on the Book of Revelation.

There are tons of books that draw on the Book of Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, etc., written by great saints and scholars. The problem is that many of them are still in Latin or have only been translated in recent years. The good thing is that, if you can get to a library with a good collection of patristics or medieval or later theology books, you will find tons of interesting stuff to read.

Scott Hahn The Lamb’s Supper is a very good commentary on Revalations though not specificaly about end times.

Thanks everyone. The only person I’ve heard of is Scott Hahn. He’s great, and so is his wife, especially on contraception matters. I’m going to check all that out.

You should check out Mark Mallett’s blog. He’s a singer/songwriter & Catholic evangelist who blogs about various Catholic topics. Many of his blogs are also about the NWO, and the end times from a Catholic perspective. One thing I like about him is that he explains things in such a way that aren’t scary, but rather bring hope through Christ.

Great! Thank you. I know what you mean by people feeling frightened by everything happening now-a-days. It seems like things are accelerating at an extremely fast rate. Personally I don’t think it’s scary, it makes me feel more prepared to know what’s coming around the bend

Much of the evangelical/pentecostal/charismatic commentary on “biblical prophecy” amounts to looking for signs in current events that fulfil biblical prophecies in the Old Testament prophets or the New Testament (especially the book of Revelation) about the end of the world. There are very few modern Catholic biblical scholars who engage in that sort of commentary, although there were a bunch in the medieval period. The basic thrust of contemporary scholarship is that the Book of Revelation is about understanding the meaning of then-current events and not primarily a prediction about the end of the world that we can see fulfilled today.
