I know this subject was discussed back in 2016, but I’m curious if there is any additional information

What do you think about the “Catholic Public Domain Version” translation of the Bible?

Would any of you use it for some basic Bible quotes in order to avoid seeking copyright permissions?

No, my prayers pay the royalties to the King. Happy Epiphany dear!👑👑👑

I would urge you not to use this.

The translator, Ron Conte Jr., is the ring leader of a heretical online “catholic” pseudo-cult. This version has no official approbation of the Church either.

If you want to read a translation of the Vulgate, get a Douay Rheims, Confraternity, or Knox Bible.

There’s an entire website dedicated to debunking the claims of Contes cult: http://www.catholicplanetfalsehoods.com

Conte also has the distinction of having an entry in the “Encyclopedia of American Loons:” Encyclopedia of American Loons: #583: Ronald Conte jr.

Stay far away from the CPDV and anything which Mr. Conte has touched. I wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I appreciate that information. I had never heard of this Bible prior to the post. Nor had I heard of Mr. Conte. However, I do like the idea of a public domain version of the Bible. It would be nice to see someone who is competent publish such a translation.

I wouldn’t bother with this because I am not an author releasing books with tons of Bible quotes, so any quoting of the Bible I might do (for instance in a post on CAF here) would be “fair use” as it’s a short excerpt for commentary purposes. If I need a public domain Bible, there is a Douay and a Vulgate already online to use (as well as the KJV in the public domain online).

I am very suspect of any version of the Catholic Bible that is not coming directly from the bishops or otherwise promoted by the Church or those closely affiliated with it (for example, the Ignatius Study Bible is touted by Scott Hahn). I never heard of this Conte guy and I am not going to just read a page because somebody threw it up and called it Catholic.
