Catholic Radio Demise

Am I the only Catholic in the Western states who is concerned and dismayed with the dismantling of our approximate 31 Immaculate Heart Catholic Radio (IHR) stations in the western United States. It is inconceivable to me that in a matter of months a corporate conglomerate from the East took over all our stations and removed the magnificent name of our precious spiritual mother and queen of heaven, Mary, from all our approximate 31 stations in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Oregon, and Hawaii. Then to give them all a name like Relevant Radio that does not even suggest that they are Catholic is deplorable. What I hear when they announce the new name is “Irrelevant Radio.” It is truly heart breaking. You would think they might have at least renamed all the stations something Catholic like Sacred Heart Radio, Immaculate Heart Radio, or Holy Family Radio.

In addition to the name change, they dumped many of the wonderful inspiring programs that the faithful followers of IHR had enjoyed for so many years. I hated loosing the Catholic Answers Program, the Mother Miriam program, and others. I guess I’ll stop supporting them financially and start focusing on watching and supporting EWTN who I understand is going to pick up the Catholic Answers programs, one of the mainstays of IHR in the past.

Don’t get me wrong, I love having a Catholic radio station and I like much of what is being aired but I think until management will consider giving us Western USA Catholics the IHR name and old programs back I will work the web to recover what we lost. To give Patrick Madrid 3 hr/day and cut Catholic Answers and other programs makes no sense.

Then tell them that! Talk to your local associate or what have you.

There are actually 3 shows on Relavent Radio I enjoy…
  1. The Patrick Madrid show (top notch in my book)
  2. Joe Sikorra show
  3. The Rosary across America

IHR is more well known in the radio world as an abbreviation for “l Heart Radio”. Which began in 2008 and has more than 850 stations.

…plus it’s your area. In my area every one knows relevant radio is Catholic. This merger happened in 2016, it’s been a while.

Best thing to do is not support them even to the point of don’t listen. There are certainly enough good Catholic shows through podcasts and internet radio. Relevant Radio wasn’t available in my area but I did listen to their archived shows and did not care for them before they did the take over and tried to take over Catholic Answers so it’s easy for me to ignore them.
