I am trying to drum up support in our parish for a Catholic radio station being started in our area. How effective has it been in other area? Where can I get some info on this? How many listen, what has been the effect on evagelization efforts, etc. I live in a area with 1.5 million Catholics and no Catholic radio. Thanks 🙂

I was amazed when i found that we have cathoilic radio in my area(am1050),its very helpful and a great blessing, no more secural protestant stations.just wish it was fm though. :bounce:

Thanks for the tip. The information is invaluable. Please pray for our success as we work to make Catholic radio a reality in the Dallas-Ft Worth metrolpex and surrounding area.

I wish you the best of luck; however, should things not work out, might I suggest Sirius Satelite radio. I moved from Wisconsin (where I had a Catholic Radio Station) to Tennessee (where there is no Catholic Stations) last year and immediately got Sirius. They have EWTN radio which has been VERY uplifting and informative. The initial cost is about $100 and the monthly cost to subscribe is about $12.95 but it’s well worth every cent IMHO.👍

Do you think that Cathoilc radio is reaching many people. Oviously, someone who gets on a Catholic Answers Forum is interested, but have you heard of anyone being brought back to the faith or anyone being their journey into the Church through this medeia?

Used to live in Chicagoland where was (and still is) Relevant Radio. I always listened to it on my way to work and back home. Nowadays, anytime I visit relatives in Chicagoland I tune to that radio station to listen to it.
Now live in San Antonio, where we do not have a catholic radio station. There is a catholic TV station on cable (but I do not have a cable). On the other hand, the other day I found an old radio that was capable of receiving SW radio. So the first thing I did was to track down EWTN. So now I have a catholic radio at home (and anywhere I take that radio)

As far as being “brought back” yes, I have. Relevant Radio (a Catholic Radio station in the Northern Midwest) contributed to my return. I was a “cradle Catholic” but turned away from the Church when I was about 21. When I moved to Wisconsin, I was about 34 and started listening to Relevant Radio on occasion. MANY of the discussions were very interesting and helped better explain some of the things that caused me to doubt when I was younger. Radio wasn’t the only medium I received information from, but it certainly helped. Soon, it was the only station I listened to and soon after that, my wife and I met with the parish Priest and were welcomed back. I love the Catholic music, daily mass, and saying the rosary with the Sisters on the radio; but most of all I enjoy the talk shows and the enormous amount of information that can be gained by simply listening while you drive.👍

I know I would love to have a catholic radio station in my area. There are several protestant stations, which play some good music and their talks are ok. But I’d like to know I’m getting a diet of Catholic teachings :o

So how exactly would you start one up?

Edit: I just saw how detailed the link by Bwavenit was :o , I’ll check that out 😃

I live in the San Antonio area, I subsribe to the least expensive Time-Warner cable package ( about $14 per month ).The Catholic channel is included,it is about a half & half split between EWTN and the SA Diocese local programing.

I’m truly blessed by it.

Trick

I stumbled on Catholic Answers Live when I started commuting into the Detroit market. I was not looking forward to the commute,
but have been blessed to hear the good things coming out of the airwaves of WDEO AM 990. I only wish that the signal was stronger!
