I wasn’t sure if this was the right forum, but maybe someone can shed light on this. I was baptized catholic and received sacraments of Communion and Confirmation. I am now a Protestant minister, but after reading some apologetic materials concerning the Real Presence and Apostolic Authority, I believe that the Catholic position is the true position. Is confession enough to be reconciled to the church, or are other procedures necessary?

I can’t really answer your question except to say that you should contact a priest in your area, or someone from the diocese. That might be a good place to start. You might also call the Catholic Answers apologists’ line. Their number is on the main site (www.catholicanswers.com). They’re great for answering questions.

I used to be the Children’s Director for the local Church of Christ and went to Lincoln Christian College in Illinois before I converted this past April. So, as a former “minister”, let me say “Welcome Home!”

May I suggest that you visit www.chnetwork.org. This is a website established to assist Protestant clergy who are interested in learning about the Catholic faith and to those who wish to join (or rejoin) the Church. Financial and job assistance are available if needed. CHN was founded by Marcus Grodi, a former Presbyterian minister. Scott Hahn, also a former Presbyterian minister and biblical scholar is on the board of directors. He is a prolific writer of Catholic books and well-known teacher and apologist. CHN’s spiritual director is a former Episcopal priest. Since it’s a ministry run by converts, they have a special calling to advise clergymen like yourself.

The short answer is, Confession is all that’s required, but you don’t need to make this journey alone. Let CHN help you.

You might want to read the conversion stories at CHN. At the home page, click on “conversion stories” then scroll down by name. Do read Father Brian W. Harrison’s story, Logic and the Foundations of Protestantism. And the story of Patty Bonds, James White’s sister, is there also. White is probably the best Protestant apologist in the U.S.

IM not Catholic but changing faith communities can be very stressful. I wish you the best and hope you find peace.
