Catholic-safe yoga practices?

The difference between Pietra Fitness and Yoga is that those at Pietra Fitness have renamed the positions and purposefully used Scripture to meditate upon, thus completely separating the moves from Yoga, or at least, partially. I don’t know whether they have sought blessing for what they have done, with the Church. But I would suspect that they have?! This is a way of combating Yoga by bringing everything into line with Christianity and cutting the link to Hinduism. Even with Pietra Fitness, the moves are still imitating Yoga moves…so…but at least they have gone one sensible step further towards being responsible for their faith.

There are actually normal keep-fit exercises one can do. None of them involve Yoga. All of the exercises help those who do them to keep fit. All these exercises can be found on health sites. There is even an original rough plan that was from an athlete who posted his old work-out regime on a running website. No Yoga. And one could also look up any sports workout regime as well as ballet even…one can be imaginative.

The bottom line is, those who do Yoga want to do Yoga, and that is it. I also suspect that even if the Church definitively underlined Yoga as having adverse effects on people’s Catholic spirituality, some here would still undertake Yoga, because…they want to.
This is not completely correct. Pietra Fitness & SoulCore both made sure to remove the positions which were problematic. The positions which are just stretching may have been renamed, but they were forced to remove certain potions.

In regards to SoulCore, as I’ve mentioned before, I’ve spoken with the founders. After they had their initial program created, it was examined by some priests and Susan Brinkmann, O.C.D.S

SoulCore was instructed to removed the problematic postures and instructed regarding why they were problematic.

They did so, and now SoulCore is approved by the Church and even recommended by Cardinal Dolan (who they founders have spent a lot of time with).

Hi. Thanks for the correction. That’s even better news! 👍🙂

So let’s say someone told you that they had read somewhere that listening to the Beatles music is satanic, you respond with “That’s absurd!”…and they say, “You are dealing with unknowns here, so you’d best not be engaging in that activity”…what would your response be?

*NB: the “listening to Beatles music” is a cipher. There is no need to respond with your position on pop music. Fill in the blank with any normal activity that you engage in and see nothing wrong with…like putting on your left shoe before you put on your right shoe, or brushing your teeth in the shower, or putting your seatbelt on before you put the keys in the car…
Now, that’s just wrong
