Has anyone here participated in an online Catholic singles club? We have a dear friend who was divorced a year ago. He would like to meet someone who is a committed Catholic. Since we live in a very rural area, his chances of meeting such a person are pretty slim. What would you recommend?

A single gentleman on another board joined St. Raphael’s online dating service. He is getting married this coming September! 😃
That might be a good place to try.

Peace,
Linda

Yes, I am a member of Ave Maria, and I have found a wonderful man (who is in your circumstances-- rural). We are currently discerning marriage.

Raphael changed their domain name to www.catholicmatch.com. Apparently, people can’t spell raphael.

Just a quick thought… If he is sincere in wishing to date a committed Catholic, he’s going to want to ascertain whether he qualifies for an annullment first. It would be creating a near occassion of sin for both him and the woman to enter into a relationship that did not have the chance of resulting in sacramental marriage. Sorry, not to burst bubbles, but from the posts and threads it seems like there’s a lot of heartbreak and resultant leaving the church when it happens in the reverse order.

Maggie,
Yes, thanks for pointing that out. It is important to get that all straightened out. When this first fell apart, his wife was telling him that SHE was going to pursue the annullment and at that time he planned on fighting it tooth and nail. However, a year has gone by and he has had to watch her and her new boyfriend together in Church every week. I think he is terribly lonely and now wants to get on with his life. I’m not sure what the status is of the annullment. I will be sure to mention that to him though.

Hi Kathy,

There is a Catholic Family Ministry called CFC-Singles For Christ (CFC-SFC). **CFC Singles for Christ - **is a ministry of Couples for Christ for single people, envisioned to be a support environment for individuals who are already past school and who are in the process of choosing their state of life: marriage or remains single for the Lord.

HOWEVER; THIS IS NOT A DATING SERVICE! This ministry is a community of believers who are dedicated to serving the Lord.

I attended several CFC-SFC get-togethers and they were run like a dating service. In fact, we did “speed dating” one night. One other attendee said to me after I showed my displease, “If you don’t want to hook up, don’t show up.”

I was hoping for a supportive environment for singles in a place where singles are usually overlooked (the Church in general).

Good grief, I hope he didn’t mean “hook up” in the common secular meaning of the phrase. If he did, that is an extraordinarily crude and classless thing to say.

Jeane,
I don’t know which Singles For Christ group you attend, I can assue you that it was not associated with the Couples for Christ (CFC) Ministry. We do not operate in that like that. Our focus is on the Lord and on developing a prayerful life in conjunction to our Catholic life and beliefs.
“Hooking-Up” is not something we do, unless it’s with the Lord. The CFC-Singles for Christ is a Faith based ministry which only focuses on the spiritual growth of it’s members.
I have heard of a protestant group who also call themselves Singles For Christ (I don’t know too much about them). THis is why we prefix our name with CFC. If you would like to meet other Catholic Singles for spiritual growth, please let me know.

He did, unfortunately. I only went to the meetings for a couple of months. After this and the speed dating thing, I decided this group wasn’t for me.

This took place in a parish hall and there was a priest present! And people talk about abuses in the liturgy.

I wonder of this was Catholic Singles (www.catholicsingles.com) which is a dating service? Or something the parish, itself, has set up.

Couples for Christ-Singles for Christ (CFC-SFC) can be found,at least in Chicago, at (www.sfc-il.com/)

WE DO NOT do “speed dating”. I know, because my wife and I are the area coordinators for SFC-Chicago. Our formation is VERY closely regulated and we STRICTLY adhear to the teachings of the Church and the last I looked, speed dating of any sort is not in our teachings.

I’ve tried St. Raphael (Catholicsingles.com) and Ave Maria Singles, as well as secular sites, with no luck. Not all at once, mind you, but at one time or another over the past few years.

Are there legit SFC groups in central Indiana?
