Hi All,
During this coronavirus lockdown, my husband and I have decided to try out Catholic streaming sites as opposed to popular media such as Netflix, as we feel it is more in line with the Lenten season. We are torn between trying out the Word On Fire service and Formed Media. Have you tried one or the other? What was your experience?
Thanks!

I would recommend EWTN.
They regularly schedule Word on Fire and other smaller shows, sites and stations.

I love the Morning Glory show. Just saying.

I have access to both.

In my opinion, FORMED is much better than Word on Fire.

FORMED’s programing is very diverse, while Word on Fire is just Bishop Barron and few others who are similar to him in style.

Not that there’s anything wrong with Word on Fire, but FORMED is far more diverse with Catholic Movies, Documentaries, apologetics videos, Bible Studies, Catechesis programs, cartoons, Audio Dramas (like ones on the Radio), audio presentations, eBooks, etc.

All of Word on Fire’s programs are only from Word on Fire.

But FORMED has programs from:
  • The Augustine Institute (creators of FORMED)
  • Ignatius Press
  • what used to be Lighthouse Catholic Media
  • 4PM Media
  • Word on Fire
  • Wild Goose Ministries
  • Magis Center of Reason and Faith
  • CCC America
  • Rome Reports
  • Herald (Catholic) Entertainment
  • Christian History Institute
  • Catholic Answers
  • EWTN
  • Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception
  • St. Paul Center of Biblical Theology
  • Knights of Columbus
  • Quiet Waters
  • Brother Francis
  • Sophia Institute Press
  • USCCB
  • Courage
  • Steve Ray
  • Vision Video
  • The Abbot’s Circle
  • plus many more
So if you can only pay for one, pick FORMED.

Formed is good. There are private subscriptions and parish subscriptions. Perhaps it’s time for some parishes to take the leap and get a subscription that will cover all of their parishioners… food for thought. 🙂

The CatholicTV app is really good. There is live content and on demand.

I have belonged to 2 parishes and parishoners were given a password to
access FORMED. It has excellent content. I would be on it all day long if I could.
There aren’t enough hours in the day for me. So I don’t go there often or I would
get nothing else done.

Do you have to pay for Formed?
Depends.

If you are part of a parish that is paying for FORMED, then no, you don’t.

However, if you parish isn’t paying for it, then you need to pay $9.99 per month.

I’ve tried both. Hands down, Formed is better for the variety of content, as well as the price. Formed is half of what Word on Fire costs, and you get a much deeper library of content.
