Are there any traditional or common Catholic table blessings?

The only one I have found is like this…

Bless, O Lord this food that it may be an effective and salutary remedy for mankind. For Thy name’s sake, grant that all who partake of it may obtain health of body and safety of soul. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

…but it sounds like a blessing a priest would give at a feast, not something you would say alone or with a couple of other people.

The most common prayer I’ve heard is: “Bless us O Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.” This is the prayer my dad ALWAYS uses before a meal, I’ve never heard him use another!

The one my family grew up saying is:
Bless us, oh Lord, and these, thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

LOL! Bee Sweet, we posted this at exactly the same time. The prayer must be fairly common.

It is. I have three books which have this prayer and the after meals prayer, mostly the same. I toss in an added prayer for The Holy Souls. 🙂
