I am Catholic in a moral dilemma. I am thinking about having my circumcision restored.
Do you think it is a morally correct option or would it come under he heading mortally sinful.
Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with restoring back what someone took from you without your knowing or consent. However I was wondering what church teaching has to say on the matter.
I looked all over online and found only positive statements. However I don’t know if the are from a Catholic perspective. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Paul does say that those who are circumcised should not seek to be uncircumcised (yes, restoration is that old. Older even.) but remember that that was in the context of discussing whether either circumcision or uncircumcision was necessary to follow Christ. Neither is.

On its own, uncircumcision should not be immoral provided you are doing it for legitimate reasons and it does not lead you into sin.

There is NO Catholic teaching on this cosmetic surgical procedure nor it’s reversal.

It is up to each individual.

It’s been going on for thousands of years. Apparently rabbis had to put a stop to the practice among Jews who were doing it to better hide among other peoples. It’s basically the same principal as stretching out your earlobe.

It doesn’t restore any structure that was completely removed, but it does take what’s left and grow it to the point that it fulfills most of the same functions.

If you can afford it, if it poses no risk to your health or functioning, and if it does not require any immoral sexual methods (details are not necessary here), I see no objection to restoring one’s organ in the way you describe.

Circumcision can be very harmful and can create problems far worse than the “problems” it is supposed to address. In extreme cases, when something goes very wrong, the organ can be destroyed — there was a tragic case of this in Canada some years back. We saw this as an unnecessary mutilation and did not have our son circumcised when he was born. I have explained to him why we did not have this done, and what circumcision entails, and he is very appreciative of our decision.

Maimonedes taught that G-d prescribed circumcision for the Jews because it actually weakens the situation, as it were, and moderates sexual desire. Aside from the Old Covenant, which we are no longer under, there is no reason to do it. It is essentially a mutilation of what nature has provided, and “looking like everybody else” is not a sufficient reason. In Europe, it’s basically not done. There can be medical reasons to do it (phimosis, etc.) but this is relatively rare.

I don’t think it is a problem. I have known grown men who chose to be circumcised as adults, and that is ok, too.

The short answer is the Church allows it if it’s for health reasons but does not if it’s for religious reasons.

Here’s a big huge long article you may have seen. It seems to imply that infant male circumcision is immoral, so I don’t know how anyone could think ill of your wish to restore your body.
To Circumcise or Not to Circumcise?
Given that God instructed Abraham to have himself, his whole household, and all his descendants circumcised as part of his covenant with him, it doesn’t seem tenable for a Catholic to hold this position.

Circumcision was in style in America in the 20th century. Not so much in Europe. Circumcision and its cosmetic reversal are neutral, and you shouldn’t feel any pressure to have it reversed.

Well there is a fundamental difference between circumcision for religious reasons and circumcision for aesthetic or medical preference. Since the command to circumcise was removed for Christians, the former is not an option for Catholics.

I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere…

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to reply to you so I’m not sure why it did.
