I’m a fairly recent convert, entered the church in 2012, and I’m still learning. A non-Catholic friend recently game me a Bible Promises book. I remember these being quite popular when I was a Protestant, but it occurred to me that I haven’t seen or heard much on this subject since my conversion.
So, what is the Catholic view point on Bible promises? (and to clarify, I am not in any way talking about how bible promises are used by the Word of Faith movement.)
thanks in advance!

I’m not sure what the official Catholic answer would be, but my take is that it is primarily important to recognize the context of the verse before assuming that it automatically applies in my circumstance. Some Scriptural promises always apply - for example - if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness - so I can trust that my heartfelt confession before the priest and his absolution is going to cleanse me. In other not as clear circumstances, I can pray with Scriptural promises, but my prayer always ought to be, “Thy will be done.”

I would say that the Church’s view of God’s promises is that He will make good on them.
The question is will WE make good on our promises to God?

Peace
James
