It is interesting how often these days the term ‘Roman Catholic’ is applied to Catholics by Catholics.
During the 1950s and 1960s, at least, I remember the term ‘Roman Catholic’ was applied to us by the Protestants, especially, for example, the Church of England (Anglicans) who considered themselves Catholic… and we were only Roman Catholic.
The nuns were very particular that we should call ourselves Catholic, not Roman Catholic. We all loved Rome of course and were proud that our Church was under the head of the Pope in Rome.
What’s happened since then? I still refer to myself as Catholic.
