So this is a pretty straight forward subject. I want to use incense for formal in home prayer. Are there any that are preferred? Are there any used for specific purposes? Where is the best place to get them? Should I order online or use the local store? (Mine only carries one kind and it’s 25 USD an ounce) I’m curious! Tell me what’s going on my dudes.

(Just to clarify I do not use or care about scented stuff that is related to drugs and I worry about using things named after other religions or called “dragonsblood” I don’t want to send mixed messages.)

Catholic incense comes in a variety of aromas, although frankincense is pretty common. I’m not aware of there being particular types of incense used for particular reasons. Incense is incense to my knowledge.

I would suggest if you’re concerned about using “secular” or “new age” or “pagan” incense that you buy your incense from a Catholic church supplies shop. If you google “Catholic incense” on the web then you can find a lot of places to get it by mail (lots of varieties too), but it might be cheaper at a shop in your area and you wouldn’t have to pay shipping.

P.S. Happy Birthday!

Thanks so much. I’ve no idea what I need to actually start burning incense. I’m used to the prefab sticks, not the resins. If anyone has tips please post!

Scripture (Revelation) tells us that incense smoke is the prayers of the saints being raised to God.

It does not say that the incense has to be any particular “flavor”.

The Church typically uses, I believe (and I may be wrong) uses Frankincense for liturgical purposes.

Burn whatever flavor you like at home, but join in prayers to the saints to be raised to the throne of God with those oblations.

I know m…myrrh? XD Is used also in the bible but I don’t really know which would be more appropriate if any. Thanks for your post.

Just be forewarned, incense is strong and it works in a church, but in a room inside your house, it can be overwhelmingly strong.

But you’ll find out

Been there done that

Does anyone know if there are home censers that are made by monks or the like that i could buy or procure? I need to think about one or atleast find a shop that sells them that isn’t secular in nature.

I thought that’s where I found those, Sorry. I saw them, I’m hoping for something smaller I guess sadly 30 bucks is a lot for the time being.
