Do Catholics in America think that America is Gods country?
If so, why? And do you root for Americas survival as a country, or do you value all countries?

yes, yes and yes
all countries are God’s country
I want America and all countries to survive
and I value all countries and their citizens equally
I hope that all countries can enjoy the freedoms that Americans do, and that Americans learn to value those freedoms, and salute those who gave the last full measure of devotion to make that a reality. God bless America
aaaaand
world peace.

you did not ask about American secular culture, you did not ask about political systems and leaders of other countries, so I will not address those.

some particular reason for this choice of thread?

I think one problem is that America, apparently, still has a “superpower” mentality. We need to dump that and allow other counties to “develop” in their own way. The absolute only reason for getting invoved would be to help those countries like in Africa where there is genocide and civil war to the point where there is much suffering. And we could probably stand to allow other countires take the initiative for a change.

I’ve read a lot of posts here over the past year or so and have come to the conclusion that there are indeed many folks here who seem to have a “God is American” mentality. What I mean by this is that they seem to believe that God has some special interest in America that makes this country and the people born here “special”, “better than”. The interests of America seem to be absolute, regardless of the impact these policies have on peoples of other nations. In other words, the interest isn’t in “all God’s people” it’s in “Americans, and then is it doesn’t hurt our interests, everyone else.” This is not everyone here and I hasten to not that many American “Christians” who have never heard of this forum have this same opinion. 🤷

Might not the better question be, Does God think America considers itself, God’s country? (As in living according to God’s law.)

Methinks the answers gets more and more murky every day. Especially to God.

I think as far as it being God’s country, well, He could do better. 😉

Yes, I think that America, the United States has been much benefited by God’s favor. I do know for sure in the 40’s and 50’s we were taught that in Catholic school and many of us believed it. Why else did so many people want to immigrate to this place. Until the war in Iraq it was possible to go to Europe and find that most Europeans liked Americans, we were welcomed, we were thanked for what we had done for Europe in the World Wars as late as the 1990’s When 9/11 happened these people were on our side and sympathetic, but no more. With the decline of the Soviet Union and our invasion of Iraq, Americans are seen as bullies. Maybe it is natural because like some teen aged kids they no longer need a protective parent to tell them what to do. Like the dollar we are no longer worth much in their eyes.

There was a book published maybe 20 years ago called “The Power and the Glory” which saw North America in a very positive light and tried to account why we so blessed. I still believe in many ways that we are.
