Douay-Rheims was an English translation of the Bible which was printed before the KJV “Authorized” version. The KJV translators even plagiarized a lot of verses directly from that translation. Another reason Bibles were locked away from the general public (hundreds of years ago) is because before the printing press was invented, it would take monks sometimes 1 - 3 years to hand copy a Bible (which is why catechisms were so popular). Also, that’s garbage that the Mass was said in Latin in order to keep people from understanding what was being said. All of the text was printed in English (or a native language) for parishioners to follow along with the Mass. Mass is not a time or a place for a Bible study as many protestants have turned their services into… it is a time and place to worship God and focus on the Eucharist and Christ’s sacrifice for us. It takes about 3 years to go through the whole Bible at Mass. The WHOLE Bible, not just pretexts that a lot of protestant ministers use. We also have missalette which have the scripture printed on it. Just because your friend didn’t study the Bible doesn’t mean she should chastise all Catholics who actually have.
