Catholics United Misleads Catholics on Importance of Pro-Life Issues

Washington, DC – Catholics United is hoping to confuse pro-life Catholic voters into thinking that it’s alright for them to consider abortion just as or less important than other political issues – despite clear teaching from the Catholic Church saying nothing is more important than the destruction of 50 million unborn children.

The left-wing political group, which has been working throughout the election to provide cover for Catholics to support pro-abortion candidate Barack Obama, chose Pro-Life Sunday to sent out an email blast with a new flier.

LifeNews.com spoke with Father Frank Pavone, the director of Priests for Life, who says the flier and email are misrepresent not only the teachings of the Catholic Church and its top leaders, but much more.

Well, let’s go beyond LifeNews and go to the horses’ mouth here.

Let’s look at the flier which has ruffled some feathers.

The first part talks about how nothing has been done by those who take the positions in politics. The rest can be discussed about in active threads in the Politics form on this.

The next part is the broad definition of “life”, where politically it often ends at birth.

And the last part is the part that RvW is not a magic bullet to end abortions, which is true, this is real life, making something illegal will not end it if the social fabric fo society is ripped and we are unable to care for each other. The stigma needs to be removed and the positive, not the negative needs to be emphasised, the positive being societal supports (day care, money to live on, education money, housing, etc…). While it has been often misrepresented as “welfare queens” by some in the past needs to be part of the solution.

For a change, I agree with at least ONE thing said by New Ulm.

RoevWade certainly is NOT the magic bullet that will end abortion. It was the magic bullet that BEGAN the abortion explosion in this country.

I’m not sure how this issue gets so muddied in people’s minds. Not 1% of cops in America would take 2 seconds to decide which crime to stop FIRST if he simultaneously saw an unarmed mugging and a knifing taking place.

Yet somehow millions of catholics can’t muster the same level of moral clarity.

The REALLY sad thing is that if it weren’t for all the catholic abortion accommodationists voters in the country, we could end the vast majority of abortions and move on to address other social injustices. Instead we all cancel each other out and the culture of death unites and defeats us - temporarily.
