I have one of those all-metal pull-chain rosaries, the kind the papal guard have. I’ve noticed I need to watch what’s happening when I pray the rosary, because my cat likes to swat at and try to chew the crucifix. I was wondering if anyone else has critters that try to play with your prayer beads.

Funny you should ask because my big ol’ orange boy was sitting on the couch with me the other day, and I noticed he was vigorously chomping on something. I went to see what it was and he had my rosary and was chomping away! I quickly removed it and scolded him. The rosary was okay, it’s a Rugged Rosary made to take a lot of stress, and the cat is missing some of his teeth.

I’ve had other ones who want to paw the beads when I use them.

I know once on the Rugged Rosaries site I read that someone’s puppy chewed up their Rugged Rosary so the company replaced it for free.

DUDE, YES!!!

I’m glad to see it’s not just my lil’ kitty. For me, the rosary is part of my morning prayer routine, so I have started casting How To Pray The Rosary – Rosary Center to my TV via Chromecast. Doesn’t really feel the same, but I doubt God minds the change and is a lot less frustrating first thing in the morning.

Gotta love those little furry mischief makers! ❤️

Reading this thread just put a smile on my face and just reminded me of the cute things that they’ll try and do to get our attention when we’re right in the middle of doing something…

My one kitty used to come and lay right on top of the newspaper and other papers I was in the middle of reading, and he would start to also chew on the mail pile, too! 😁

He was like Godzilla, where he’d just kind of plow through everything that you’d be in the middle of doing!

If you were sitting on the floor especially, and were trying to do something there, like put something together, it was all fair game to him, too! 😆

I can’t recall him playing with anything religious of mine, though. 🤔

The cat I had when I was a child would always wait for my dad to get sitting in his lazy boy chair and then open up the newspaper all across his lap, and then the cat would come and sit on Dad’s lap right on top of the paper he was trying to read. Dad got to like that. Dad had a stroke and was in hospital for several months and when he got home and the cat saw the newspaper and came and sat on it just like usual, Dad totally teared up that the cat remembered the little habit after 4 or 6 months.

As for them being like Godzilla, I used to call my big boy “Kool Aid Man” because he would just go barging through everything to get where he wanted to go. He was 24 pounds so he would totally knock everything sideways, boxes, etc. He reminded me of the big Kool Aid pitcher that would crash through a wall singing “Oh yeeeeahhh”.

Thanks for sharing such a sweet and beautiful story about your kitty and your Dad, Bear. ❤️

I really love hearing stories like this about all of our beloved pets! 😀

My cat tends to leave me alone in prayer. She took interest in the Rosary the first time she saw it, but once I pulled it away from her, she looked for something else to do. If only she were that cooperative with my laptop cord…

What the…how…?

My cat is a bit on the small side, but 24 lbs. is over three times her size!

The cats used to try and play with our rosary beads when my kids were young, usually it was too much of a distraction so out they went.

He has dropped some weight due to aging and kidney disease (he is now 15), so he is now a more normal 17.5 pounds. He was just a very large ginger tom cat. Some Maine Coons get even bigger than that. At 24 pounds he was difficult for me to pick up, especially since when I got him from the shelter he was not always a happy camper and would bite and draw blood. I am always happy I adopted him rather than some family with young children because the first night I had him home, he got scared in the night and bit me on the face while I was laying in bed. I kept him, but if that had been somebody’s kid he would have been returned. After a few years and two rounds of dental work to get rid of painful teeth, he is a sweetie now.

I have another cat right now who I think is around 21 pounds. He’s just a large-boned, huge cat. Some of 'em grow big.
