There is an argument that if the causal chain extends down into a perpetually smaller and smaller microscopic world that cause and effect would take forever to propagate upwards. It’s similar to the argument that if the universe is infinitely old then it would have taken an infinite amount of time to reach the present. However it is also argued that existence itself is fundamentally infinite and that therefore an infinite amount of time has already passed at any given moment. I hope somebody can elaborate on such an idea, it takes some discussing though.
Aside from all that though, physicists seem to be in agreement that there is a smallest possible scale that it is meaningful to talk about, namely the
Planck length.
Thoughts?
… my dear friend ,
… my thoughts if you like : there is no such thing as time at all , time and change are an illusion , we and our world exp change and hence get a concept of time because we cannot exp our whole eternity all at once , we would not exist , be babies , adults , in purgatory and heaven all at once for eg , and who knows what else god has in store for us , but even more important god cannot exist in or work in time , the reason is that god just " is " and " is " in eternity , in eternity there is no beginning , end or middle , just " now " , and god must do all " now " in " now " and not over the course of time , time and change are for our benefit out of absolute necessity , but all change has already occured from all eternity in " now " , i know it’s very hard for us to fathom that this can be so and the accepted belief is time exists – but more so time does not exist in eternal realms , but revelations show people coming back to say they were in purgatory for 20 yrs and it was only 1 day , time goes very slow when you suffer and the pains of purgatory gradually lessen giving some concept of exaggerated time , in heaven you have no way of measuring time because of infinite bliss and time goes so slow it stands still by all appearances and it does not concern you anway , in hell it is such complete agony and insanity a day may seem like 100 yrs as a guess but you cannot really measure time i suspect – at least it is questionable you can , so you can measure time in eternal realms , but it varies a lot as said , from the moment we’re conceived we’re in eternity and death is only a further progression into the eternity of our choice , i know this flies in the face of curreent science and church understanding but i think i’m right , god has made our experience of our " isness " in " now " a gradual unfolding for our benefit out of absolute necessity to us , and anything that exists in eternity even if it comes and goes is eternal , so you do not have to exist forever literally in eternity to be eternal , that means an eternal realm can cease to be like this world for instance , as when it is destroyed and a new heaven and earth are created , and as god must do all his creativity " now " he cannot do it gradually over time as we think , this time and change in our world and exp is an illusion , i call it an illusion , i know my theories seem fanciful science fiction but i think i’m right dear friend , if you have any thoughts or q’s shoot , hope this helps the discussion , at least it may make it more creative and interesting ,
… may god bless and love you
