CCC # 2352 - a question

I guess someone will say “Not another thread about masturbation” but I’d like to know what folks think is the meaning of a phrase in the Catechism’s paragraph on this topic.

It talks about certain factors that reduce culpability (in the last paragraph). I understand what’s meant by most of the things listed (such as psychological - maybe sufferers from OCD?), but what might be “**social factors”?

The only thing I can think of is perhaps being single, with no prospect of marriage (or remarriage). Other than that, I have no idea.
Please do NOT assume I am asking this because I am looking for an excuse to indulge! I’m simply seeking to be informed, not judged!

“Social factors” refers, in part, to the culture-- which may erroneously form the conscience of those who live in it.

For example, the pop culture, movies and TV in America may have an undue influence on a teenager and so skew his/her view of sexuality as to impair their judgment and culpability.

Thanks, that sounds like the most likely explanation! Pretty obvious, I suppose, but I didn’t think of it!!
