Our next CCD class is tomorrow night. I thought we’d take the opportunity to go into the beginning of the Papacy, reading the story of Jesus establishing Peter as the first Pope. Then, since we’ve got 3rd graders, we’ll probably have them do a picture of that scene. They really like to put on plays (we did a living stations of the cross and they got a kick out of doing a station), so we may put together something that they can perform for other classes next week.

We just got a new bishop as well, so it will be a good time to talk about our current Pope and about our new bishop.

We’ll say a special prayer for the Holy Father. I was also liking the idea of getting them thinking about what they would ask him if they had the chance (got that idea from a thread on here.)

What else are you all going to do, if anything?

using teaching resources for various grade levels on the papacy, this pope, and the visit downloaded from the US bishops blog (access from their website usccb.org) and from our diocese. Catholic Digest, Columbia and many other publications also have excellent issues this month devoted to the papal visit, which include teaching resources and catechist materials.
