There will be a lot of American poor or homeless going hungry and cold during this Christmas season according to a group that tracks fundraising. No celebrity or famous person wants to associate fundraising for a soup chicken because it is not glamorous, chic, or hip. No red carpet to greet them. No one wants to shake hands with Joe and his family. Celebrity and the wealthy give millions of dollars to groups that fit their views or agendas like symphonic halls, art center, etc. But every little money raised goes to soup kitchens. That’s sad! I guess, that leaves us to help the poors.

No wonder, Hollywood is out of touch with America. By the way, no one needs a symphonic orchestra to record or play a Beethovan’s masterpiece or Lord of the Rings soundtrack anymore. I could do all of that on my computer with softwares like Reason 3.0, Cubase, EastWest Quantum Leasp Symphonic Orchestra. I love technology!

Heck, even if they did an ad or promoted a soup kitchen, who is to say it would help? Usually when celebs do these big deal ads or appearances, they are getting big bucks to do so. I seem to remember reading that those who played the concert put on this past summer to benefit AIDS in Africa got $20,000 in gifts to do so. Wouldn’t Africa have been better off if all those sponsors had donated the equal amount of cash to the project and, wow, the stars actually offered their time as a charitable act! Not that there arn’t charitable stars out there, but this kind of stuff leaves a bad taste…

The Live 8 concerts did not raise one dime of money for Africa - it was just to “raise awareness.”

Money was made however - though the concerts were free admission there were TV advertisements during the broadcasts, T-shirts, vendor liscenses, and all kinds of other money. This “charitable” event seemed insincere because of the $20,000 “gift” that performers recieved as well as how much it promoted their own career to be broadcast live to so many homes.
