Are you sure? I’d heard that a couple who are civilly married or married in a non-sacramental religious wedding are not committing adultery. Maybe I misunderstood, but that’s what I thought the rule is.
Yes I am sure. And some history of posts from the OP suggests other factors.

Wife is Catholic.
OP is baptized Catholic but went through RCIA? So you have two Catholics who married outside of the Church. The Church would require this to be rectified before relations should be attained. It also does not take as long as the OP set a date for. It would appear that it is the wife who has set the date.

Beleiving Catholics are required to have their marriage witnessed by a Catholic Priest for it to be officially recognised as valid by the Catholic Church.

Failure to do so (or to get approval for this) makes for a defect of form.

However to say that the situation of such a couple, especially if everything else is in order (including life-long commitment and consent esp if expressed publically in a civil wedding) must be taken seriously.

Their situation is far removed from a promiscuous couple who have just shacked up together with no intention of lifelong commitment, exclusivity and desire for children.
That would be totally unjustifiable both on theological and pastoral grounds.

I suspect though that there might be a connection between abstaining from sex against one’s will, and the incidence of a disease like cancer.

It doesn’t seem like this could be scientifically tested, but going by common sense, it seems plausible that someone doing something they hate could have negative consequences for them.

If someone is celibate but hates to be so, that hatred (and the actions they undertake in this hatred) could conceivably deteriorate both their physical and mental health.
Common sense?? Being forced to have sex does not increase risk of cancer!!

Since you are civilly married you are not having sex outside of wedlock.

Please don’t withhold physical love from your wife UNLESS you want to drive her away from God and the Catholic faith.
You are wrong. They would be having sex out of wedlock if they have not been married in the Church. The Church does not recognise the civil marriage of two Catholics as valid.

Yes me and my wife are Catholics. I was baptized but never went through any other sacraments. I haven’t been through RCIA yet (the parish requires our convalidation first). My wife is the one who chose the date. She wants it because of personal reasons and she is a stubborn wife (I mean that in a good way) so I doubt I could get her to change it.

Do you know her reasons? I guess she chose it knowing the need to abstain, but from what you’ve said, she may not have intended to actually abstain (given the health argument she raised)? But in that latter case, a pregnancy would be awkward!

Good point, I guess the OP should also expect some ridiculous reasoning from his soon to be wife about Birth control as well. From the OPs recent posting history he is taking his faith very seriously. Hopefully that will rub off on the wife if they intend to help each other gain heaven.
