Census type book

Hi Friends,

Does anyone know if the diocese has a census type book where each year every parish submits there numbers like baptisms, confirmations, marriages, average attendance at Mass…that type of thing? And, if so, what is it called? And would someone one like me (lay person) be allowed to look over it?

Yes. You can look over the report by inquiring at your parish office. At the end of each Easter season the poll comes out. We fill it out, and the Archdiocese tabulates the results.

Additionally, twice a year there is a pew count. This is done so that parishes don’t fudge their numbers. To either appear more successful than they are, or to avoid the taxation that is measured by active households registered.
 
What about a book that compares all the churches in a diocese? Where is that and is it available to us?
 
You’d have to do your own comparisons. There’s not a bunch to be gained by that/ Apples and oranges, you know? Elderly parishes are not going to have a pile of Baptisms or First Holy Communions.

What’s the question you really want answered dear?
