I want to get catechetical certification and after a long search my diocese finally led me to Dayton University - is certification an odd desire?
The program looks wonderful. I have been strongly cautioned to take only one course at a time but can’t understand why. The courses are six weeks long in an online format I am familiar with. What makes it that different from taking a full-time student work load of college courses?

I am very familiar with the subject matter, am self-employed, and have reliable internet access at all times.

Does anyone here have certification from Dayton (or rather from their diocese through Dayton)?
Is there a reason I couldn’t take more than one course at a time?

I’ve attempted to speak with someone at Dayton but have been unsuccessful in finding anyone who knows of the program - the details are on their website so I know it exists. I have the number of someone to try again tomorrow so we’ll see if she has the answers.
Thanks for any information you can give.

Christ’s peace be with you always.

Can’t say that I do, but it’s the University of Dayton, not Dayton University. That will be the first thing they tell you. 🙂

Are you talking about VLCFF classes or regular college courses?

I took a number of VLCFF classes. The quality varied depending on the instructor. They were at the level of an adult education class rather than a college-level course. I ended up wanting something with more meat to it and ended up going for a master’s in theology. But I don’t think I would have gone for the degree if I hadn’t whetted my appetite with the VLCFF classes.

In my archdiocese you cannot get catechetical certification from these classes. They want you to take the classes the archdiocese offers. At the same time, the archdiocese subsidizes the cost so that people can take the classes for personal interest at an affordable cost.

That’s why I’m wondering what’s so difficult about them 🤷. All modesty aside - from what I’ve seen of the courses I could probably test out of at least some of them.
I’d love to get a degree in theology but there are no Catholic colleges in my area. I’d like to take courses from the Catholic Distance University but unless someone will give me $10,000 it’s not going to happen :nope:.

Hopefully I can get certification through these classes since it is my diocese that sent me there - BUT I’m going to double check through e-mail to be sure.

Thanks for the reply :).
