I know the East Syriac tradition tends to be a bit more barebones when it comes to icons, but is it normal for a Chaldean parish to be completely devoid of icons? The local Chaldean mission just got their own Church, and based on the photos in the local Catholic newspaper there isn’t a single icon, image or statue anywhere in or around the sanctuary / nave - other than a plain cross. Just curious.

I’m not sure, but I think cost might have something to do with it. I mean if they just got their own church, they might just not have enough money to put that stuff up.

Maybe the picture you saw is a bit older and was taken before they could adorn the Church with holy Icons and such.

Possibly. But I am curious because I understand that the East Syriac tradition is particularly icon “lite”.

(To keep this thread going because I’m curious to hear the thoughts of others, especially Chaldean Catholics.) (no need to respond to this, but still to contribute so moderators don’t take this down.) No icons or statues… seems almost safe to invite Protestants without having them think you’re idol worshipers… So you can focus on one little thing at a time instead of everything all at once. One small thing at a time.

But Icons are beautiful and statues are beautiful in another way, though I’m an Icon guy myself… and also, Byzantine, so you know 😊
