Chaldeans and Irish

I chanced upon an article discussing the murder of Chaldean Catholic priest Ragheed Ganni of holy memory. It stated that he attended the Irish College in Rome. The article also mentioned another Chaldean priest who attended the Irish College in Rome. Is there a special connection between the Chaldeans and the Irish?

Also, are there any formal movements to canonize Fr. Ragheed and the three deacons that were killed for the Faith - or is it too soon?

Actually my sister did marry an Irish Catholic and they have three beautiful half-Chaldean/ half-Irish girls.

Do most Chaldean Catholics/clergy who study in Rome do so at the Irish college? If so, why? Maybe, brother Neil (Irish Melkite) can offer some insight.

There is no special connection between the Pontifical Irish College (PIC) and the Chaldean Church.

Although the foremost goal of the Irish College is to educate Irish students/seminarians in Rome, it is open to all nationalities just like the other Pontifical Colleges of other nations situated in Rome. I think the individual student/seminarian makes the choice.

The PIC is home to students/seminarians from around the world, at least 3 of whom are listed as from Iraq, quite possibly all Chaldeans.

I don’t mind at all. From my understanding, the canonization process is universal in the Catholic Church since it is an exercise of papal infallibility.

However, personal devotion even to those not recognized as saints is not disallowed. In fact, it is by virtue of that personal devotion/cult that many come to the attention of the appropriate authorities for a process of canonization to begin. Of course, every Catholic knows (or at least should know) that canonization does not MAKE one a saint (despite secular media errors on the matter) - it simply officially RECOGNIZES the sainthood of a certain individual.

Also, the Catholic Church has recently eased the canonization process - there isn’t as much bureacratic/hierarchical red tape as before.
