We were very blessed one year long ago to have a vibrant priest who was determined to visit as many families as he could to bless their home and mark the doors with chalk.

Does anyone know how my husband and I could do this for our home? We are no longer in that home that was blessed so I don’t even recall how the doors were marked. It was a beautiful memory that I would like to revisit.

Our priest gave out blessed chalk this Sunday and said you need to write ‘20CMB16’ above the lintel. The initials are for the three wise men who visited Bethlehem. We haven’t done it yet, but have the chalk ready to go…

It does sound like a pleasant little ritual! Apparently the origin is in the middle east.

My priest visits parishioners’ homes every year to bless them, but I thought the chalk was a Latin custom.

We do this on January 6th, the traditional date of Epiphany. Grab some chalk, ask a priest to bless it, and you’re ready to go!

I filled bottle of Holy Water right before Mass Sunday and have chalk from last year that I had a retired Priest Bless for me . Is it okay to use Wednesday or what? Should I go buy more chalk and have Blessed?

Sounds like you have everything you need already. Happy Christmastide!
