I seem to be chanting the Divine Office with the same tune, and it is getting quite monotonous.

Would anyone out there be able to direct me to an internet resource which provides audio/visual examples of some good chants for the Divine Office?

Thanks in advence.

Oh, and TwiztedSeraph, if you read this, know that it’s nearly finished…

Lolz, hey brother Nekic. I myself started a thread like this. however no one answered mine, I hope you will have more luck 😃

If you get reallly bored. Try doing it in the tone for the Our Father at Mass. Or the Preface. Or just grab some chant off the net and copy that. But, thats if you’re more musically inclined.

The Divine Office, used in Australia, has the psalms in music setting, with the marks above some words indicating a beat.

The music for this is in “The Psalms: Singing Version”, Fontana, 1966. They are also in The Grail Gelineau Psalter, GIA, 1972. They can be found in hymn books such as Catholic Worship Book and The Australian Hymn Book, 1992…

If you are after tunes for the hymns in the Divine Office, they are at romanrite.com/hymns.html

Nekić, Christian Prayer has a whole section in the back on different methods of chanting. It all looks very complicated. I think you’d need musical training and a whole lot of time to be able to make sense of it.

I am musically trained. It shouldn’t take a whole lot of time.
But i don’t have Christian Prayer…

Thanks, John, for the link. It shall prove useful. Do you, though, have any links to samples of generic chant? Something i don’t have to go out to purchase- i haven’t gotten any work for the past 2 weeks.
I could make them up myself, but i would rather use a more authentic chant.

TwiztedSeraph,
The preface is chanted? How does it go? (…lol, i’d like to see you try to sing it over a cable line…)
