Nice tax deductions for the rich. We could have universal healthcare for that much!

This is precisely why some form of social welfare and medical support is needed. While very generous, 400 billion isn’t even close to what is needed and will vary widely by how well the economy is doing. Also a good portion of this certainly wen’t towards maintaining institutions like churches as opposed to direct aid activities.

A pittance compared to our nearly $20 trillion national income. If we Christians gave as much as we ought to, there would never be want.

Not really, healthcare is a $3 Trillion / year industry. If the government were to take it over, the bill would undoubtably soar.
That’s because we let it be like that. Big pharma charging $500 for a $5 pill, etc…

The government spends $300 billion per year alone subsidizing medicare parts B and D, we won’t get anywhere near universal coverage with $400 billion.

After researching a bit, you’re right. Some estimates range over $1.5 Trillion a year. I wouldn’t mind swapping out my $400 a month crap private health insurance, for an extra $100 in taxes to cover universal healthcare.

I think it all would depend on what you mean by “universal” health care. If its just universal coverage where patients would have the opportunity to seek their own care with their own insurance or funds- that’s a lot less expensive than actually trying to provide care to everyone.

What would you estimate then?
$2000 a month. Just check the price of a gold ACA plan, then add to it since there would be no deductibles.

Remember you aren’t just paying for yourself, your tax as a working person needs to subsidize the equivalent cost of a small family, say of three.

Filthy rich people - getting older - not wanting to go DOWN in the flames !

Well, we all know what percentage of that money actually makes it to the cause.
