Charities will likely see a dramatic drop in donations because of Republican tax reforms

I’m not so sure…my giving has never considered the tax ramifications…otherwise its not a sacrifice…sometimes I have claimed or considered the deduction, other times I have not, but it was not the tax break that moved me, and I would think the same is true of other givers!

The increase in the standard deduction probably has something to do with it. Take away the standard deduction and every penny toward charity is deductible, assuming the lawmakers keep it that way. If other deductions exceed the standard deduction, then every penny contributed becomes deductible up to a maximum. But it is estimated that many more will take the standard deduction so trying to total one’s charitable contributions becomes pointless. Not saying that people will stop giving altogether but they have less incentive from the government.

I agree, but charities need money from lots of people, not just those of us who are trying to follow Christ.

All of the charities, including the parishes, I know are seeing the impact of the tax changes.

Good point. I’m reminded of the few non-Catholics including Bob Hope who helped build the LA Cathedral.

I wish every deduction would just go away and for the government to stop taxing me to death so I can give MORE of my money to charity. I know what to do with my money better than a bunch of bureaucrats.

I don’t think the average person will give as much without this incentive!

Maybe not. But my concern is not about what they choose to do with their free will but about what I choose to do with mine.

Or maybe so…

The $1.5 trillion added deficit and interest payments are entirely on them. Some conservatives.
