Hello. I was always taught that catholicism gave the world charity in a special way and that charity was different in catholicism and that there was nothing like it before. As far as being charitable and compassionate.

Ive come accross something in hinduism called dana. It appears to be charity the same way catholics look at it.

Is there any differences between dana and charity in catholicism?

I think that dāna is almsgiving, so it would be an expression of charity. Latin caritas → Old French charite → English charity. Greek agape is translated to caritas in Latin. The root meaning is more than simply alms-giving but to be dear to one.

One expresses charity in both thoughts and acts.

Catechism
1844 By charity, we love God above all things and our neighbor as ourselves for love of God. Charity, the form of all the virtues, “binds everything together in perfect harmony” ( ⇒ Col 3:14).
