Charity, Gossip, and Politics

For the sake of the common good, we are more lax when it comes to ie detraction for politicians, as a legitimate fault or policy can affect the public good. However, it seems to me that many are quite happy to assign bad intentions to a candidate or office holder from across the aisle. Gossip seems common. Sadly, this doesn’t happen only in secular politics but in “Church politics” as well.
It riles up the passions and it may be a near occasion of sin for many to get too into it.
What can we do to help in this sphere, both us personally and others?
 
I think we need to remember the dignity of people, even if they have incorrect beliefs. I hope we aren’t losing that. Sometimes I wonder if it is as side effect of the culture of death. It’s sad to have devout catholic friends post pics of running over protestors or turning pro choice or anything that takes away from a respect for humanity.

Also if one can learn to separate their opinion from their sense of “self”, so that an unkind comment about an idea isnt interpreted as an attack on you, personally.
