Charlotte is an excellent Diocese. I have been to the annual Eucharistic Congress several times and it wonderful to see so many People participating in the Eucharistic Procession.
On Saturday afternoon Bp. Jugis celebrates Mass and Communion at each location is distributed by a priest with a deacon holding the paten and a Knight of Columbus standing guard nearby.

The lion’s share of the seminarians are from the larger parishes in the Charlotte area. If we had seminarians from all over the diocese, there’d be twice as many.

Interesting. Certainly makes one wonder what those parishes are doing that can be replicated elsewhere…
Just out of curiosity, what parishes are those? St Ann’s on Park Street is the home of the weekly (plus at least twice during the week) diocesan Sunday TLM in Charlotte. St Gabriel’s on Providence Road has perpetual Eucharistic adoration. There is also a thriving SSPX quasi-parish with Mass every Sunday out in Mount Holly.

They have a good bishop who promotes the faith–even the hard teachings–and the reverent and traditional offering of the liturgy. It’s not rocket science folks.

According to the 2019-2020 prayer card, we have two transitional deacons, one each from St Matthew and St Thomas Aquinas. There are 38 additional seminarians.
Six are from Sacred Heart.
There are five from the following parishes:
St Thomas Aquinas (includes the Deacon)
St Mark
St Ann
Three from:
St Joseph
Two from:
Immaculate Conception
St Michael
St Elizabeth
Then one from each of the following:
Cathedral of St Patrick
St Matthew (the Deacon),
St John the Baptist
St Francis of Assisi
St Vincent de Paul
St John Neumann
St Dorothy
St Barnabas
Our Lady of Consolation
Our Lady of the Americas
Our parish usually has Mass & Mingle on Fridays. Two parishioners told us that they met some seminarians. These seminarians said seventy percent of the applicants were rejected. If there is something bad in the remaining thirty percent, they’re exceptionally good at hiding it.
Another parishioner told us that the diocese was getting the boys before they go to college, so that’s a big help.
From my own parish, we’ve had a couple of deacons; a secular institute vocation; and myself. My son is also officially discerning.

That sounds neat and helpful. One of our seminarians has the same name as my son, so we’ve been praying specifically for him.
I have been invited to speak to the Youth of our parish, but there’s a whole gauntlet I have to run before I can do that. I have applied for the Protecting God’s Children training, but I had to first re-register in the parish (third time for that); now I have to discern where my son and I can volunteer together (leaning towards altar server, since he’s discerning a vocation); then he and I can get the PGC training.
I honestly think the sex abuse scandal was a conspiracy. After reading all the don’ts in the PGC documents, it really does look like a conspiracy. I was going to joke about being presented with angel wings after the training, but that may not go over too well. PGC – Line of sight and behave yourself.
I really want a vocations committee started in our parish. I wish our diocese would do like we did in the KS City-St Joe MO diocese and get everyone together and make a concerted effort to “get out the vote” (so to say). Our church secretary developed a demographic phone list. One of our vocation committee members made the phone calls for a priesthood discernment retreat. How well did it work? Ten of the 15 attendees were from our church!

When you go through PGC or VIRTUS training, shoot it straight down the middle and don’t say anything you wouldn’t want to see published on the front page of the diocesan newspaper with your name on it. I had a LOT that I wanted to say, but my spidey sense told me to keep my thoughts to myself. Just attend the class, get the piece of paper, and be done with it.

Just as I thought…I bet there are no Pacahamamas, and preaching about “ecological sins” either… But those seminarians better not be caught wearing cossacks and saturnos!!!
