I was reading a book of a friend’s conversion story, and this statement of his helps me a lot:

“do not chase the miracles but the One who made them”.

and this morning I read this from St. Therese, the Little Flower’s books. She said:

The lover looks not at the gifts, but turns himself to the Giver, above all goods.

Have a blessing day.

That really struck a nerve with me. So often we (and I definitely include myself in that group) get so caught up in what we can receive, that we forget about the one who even makes it possible to receive such gifts. I had gotten quite frustrated because after four years of having a devotion to St. Therese, I never received a rose for anything I prayed for. It was only very recently that I realized I was praying completely wrong: I was trying to get her to “prove” that my prayers had been heard and answered, instead of drawing closer to her and to God by being given a loving sign.

Mtthew 22:37
"He said to him, 'You should love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind."

Jesus said “love the Lord, your God” as the first commandment, not the gifts of God.

Jesus also said in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you."

Put first thing first, all the rest will fall into the right place.

Just recently I’ve realised how much I have been comforted by the Lord. He seems to do so in a way to leave room for faith. I can believe it is from Him or it is just coincidence, but I see His hand in everything. I chase these things so I can know where I stand with Him and to wonder. Did/is He doing this because He loves me or am I in that much trouble I need the help. Again, He leaves room for faith. I know He loves me , but justice must be served, so I throw myself to His divine mercy. If by the grace of God I ever make it to heaven, I don’t want to know everything at once, the secrets of the universe, how He works. But would enjoy daily lessons so I can appreciate them and wonder all the more at the depth of God and His creation. Could you imagine being so blown away by God as to only be able to sing psalms and hymns of praise for eternity and Him revealing more each second to never exhaust that. I love that thought, Tim

I love this thread!

I just read a post in which a non believer of any sort of religion stated they wouldn’t join any faith unless they experienced or witnessed a miracle.

And that made me so sad…for them. I felt like they are cutting off their nose to spite their face. Only willing to accept truth if it comes in the package they dreamed up for it.

I was once like that. Waiting for God to be that thing I heard others tell me about. Waiting for THEIR miracle in MY life. Then one day…I stopped squinting searching for that narrow idea of God…and my life has never been the same.

It’s not about miracles, it’s about truth.

I don’t know who or where the statement comes from, but it goes;

“Seek the God of consolation, rather than the consolations from God.”

Beautiful. One could meditate on that for quite awhile.

You don’t necessarily have to recieve a Rose from St Theresa when she lets you know that she hears your prayers.

I prayed a novena to her several weeks ago, (one of many over the years) I have great devotion to The Little Flower. Theresa is my confirmation name, anyhow the morning after the ninth day was a Sunday. I usually go to a later Mass but for some reason I went to the 8:15 AM one, first time I ever did that.

When I went into the Church I was going to sit in a pew but I looked and saw someone I knew so I decided to sit directly behind her. Half way through Mass I looked over at the side Alcove where Our Lady’s Statue is. Now if I had sat were I wanted to or had gone to a later Mass were there would have been lots more people I never would have looked over there.

Nor would I have been able to see what was on the little Alter in front of the statue, but as I looked over Low and behold there was a beautiful bunch of red roses. I could not believe it, I knew then why I had been promted to go to the earlier Mass.

She did not give me a Rose, she put a whole bunch in The Church for me to see and say yep I hear you. I have even heard of people just getting the scent of Roses.

I think she did the same thing for me. It was a few days into praying her novena and I went to the Adoration chapel. When I walked in, I was feeling way too unworthy to look at Jesus, so I sort of kept my eyes downward for a few minutes. Then in the middle of my prayers, I gazed up at the Host and then back down and my eyes rested on a big bouquet of roses placed underneath Him, and then another bouquet was to the right beside the statue of Our Lady. I have never seen roses like that in that chapel again, except for a few here and there included in a bouquet of several different flowers.

My prayers haven’t been completely answered yet, but I can see that they’re on that path and I’m waiting with faith patiently. 😉

ETA I personally enjoy chasing miracles. Not because I need one to have Faith, but because it’s so awesome to see God’s intervention in action. The things He does for us never cease to amaze me. 👍

I don’t think people should chase miracles. I think they come as a by product of God’s love for us. Many miracles happen and we are not even aware of them. Some lead people to God, others just confirm one’s faith. It’s a gift from heaven.

Agreed, I don’t know really what chasing miracles means, what does it mean?

I also agree that there are little miracles that happen all around us
all the time.

I don’t look for miracles per se, what I pray for is mainly to know that I am on the right track and doing what I need to do to make my Faith stronger.🙂
