I asked a friend what the answer to a particular part of a question was and he told me. Now I usually have a policy that when I overhear an answer or someone tells me I always check it first instead of just writing it down without thinking. I didn’t know how to check the answer he gave me so I asked him to explain, he did so but I still didn’t understand and just wrote down the answer he said, I knew this was wrong and thought ‘mortal sin’.
This wasn’t on a major test but nonetheless by submitting this answer, whether it was right or wrong, I have deceived my teacher. But does this deception constitute grave matter? As I want to go to Mass this evening and am a little unsure whether I should receive communion.
