I’m really trying to work on being cheerful and lighthearted. For several years now I’ve been taking myself far too seriously, and as a result I come across as humorless and negative. Does anyone know, first of all, of any prayers for the gift of spiritual joy, or for a cheerful disposition? Secondly, does anyone have any recommended reading on this topic? Thanks!
Off the top of my head, the first two things would be to read the Book of Psalms - highlighting the ones speaking of “joy and gladness.” The second, very powerful medicine, is to watch children and observe their trust, joy, happiness and their carefree spirit and know that this is what God wants for us! We are His dear children! Learn from them!
