Chicago Nun Volunteering as Abortuary Deathscort

HINSDALE, Illinois, October 23, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Dominican nun has been seen frequenting an abortion facility in Illinois recently - but not, as one might expect, to pray for an end to abortion or to counsel women seeking abortions, but to volunteer as a clinic escort.

Local pro-life activists say that they recognized the escort at the ACU Health Center as Sr. Donna Quinn, a nun outspokenly in favor of legalized abortion, after seeing her photo in a Chicago Tribune article.

“I’ve called her sister several times, and she never responded,” local pro-lifer John Bray told LifeSiteNews.com (LSN). “But it’s her.”

Amy Keane, a pro-life witness for 11 years, says Quinn has acted as escort for “six years, at least.” Keane described one incident in which Quinn began shouting at the pro-lifers as they spoke to a woman about to enter the abortion facility.

“[Quinn] was so angry, and burst out very loudly so everyone could hear: ‘Look at these men, telling these women what to do with their bodies!’” said Keane. “She was so angry, that it really took all of us aback.” Keane says that the group was peaceful, and that the men present were not among those engaging the woman.

“For those of us who are Catholic, to have a member of a religious order so blatantly - it is so disheartening. It really is,” said Keane. “She’s participating actively in abortion. That is what is so disturbing for us.”

Don’t these people realize that when they are in a position of authority, they are held accountable to a much higher standard then the laymen? The message she is sending out is horrible, I can’t think of how many women look to her example and think that abortion is ok since afterall, we have a nun that’s in favor of it. This person is not only causing damage to the churches reputation, she is leading others astray in the process. I pray she realizes the error in her ways and recounts her position publicly. Also, I’m rather put off that the church hasn’t taken action, this is just disturbing.

I read that news report a few days ago. It is so sad. I have great respect for the Dominicans and I have always thought of them as orthodox and loyal to the Church - I’m not saying that I don’t think this now - I do, but it is such a pity to see a member of an order that I am very fond of being so blatantly disobedient to the Church and to Christ. Thankfully so many of Christ’s followers will be able to stand before the Lord and say that they did what they could to uphold the sanctity of life. This nun will also be answerable before the Lord for embracing the “culture of death”. I hope that she will soon realise her errors, and I hope that her prioress will refuse to continue to be an accessory to her sinful ways. Pray for this poor nun. She has confused compassion with cooperation!

She has apparently not read the Church’s teaching on abortion; "Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. “A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae,” “by the very commission of the offense,” and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law. The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society.(CCC 2272).

Why do we continually shoot ourselves in the foot? No wonder the Vatican is sending representatives to investigate these dissident, feminist orders who have strayed from the teachings of Jesus.
