HAVING large families should be frowned upon as an environmental misdemeanour in the same way as frequent long-haul flights, driving a big car and failing to reuse plastic bags, says a report to be published today by a green think tank.

The paper by the Optimum Population Trust will say that if couples had two children instead of three they could cut their family’s carbon dioxide output by the equivalent of 620 return flights a year between London and New York.

I think we should start our population reduction with the members of this think tank, since it would certainly result in a significant reduction of unnecessary hot air. 😃

I am glad you are just kidding, but something must be done within legal constrains. The environmental movement is getting to a point where , if you do not agree with them, they will threaten your life. It is almost like terrorism.

How about something better, like “Have a child, plant a tree” ? If kids emit carbon dioxide, then adults do doubly so. Yet I didn’t see the author advocate suicide.just to get rid of all the “extra” carbon dioxide…Or even breathing one less breath a day… :rolleyes:

yup we gotta stop them toddlers from driving them big SUVs and burning that high sulfur coal, little brats. that ain’t carbon dioxide oozing from them diapers, its methane, if we could find a way to harness it from all the diapers in all the landfills we would have an inexhaustable alternate fule source.
 
Actually, I have heard about a technology that seals in landfills, and traps the methane. They were trying it in California on a small scale, I believe. 🙂

Dysgenic fertility means that there is a negative correlation between intelligence and number of children. Its presence during the last century has been demonstrated in several countries. We show here that there is dysgenic fertility in the world population quantified by a correlation of − 0.73 between IQ and fertility across nations. It is estimated that the effect of this has been a decline in the world’s genotypic IQ of 0.86 IQ points for the years 1950–2000. A further decline of 1.28 IQ points in the world’s genotypic IQ is projected for the years 2000–2050. In the period 1950–2000 this decline has been compensated for by a rise in phenotypic intelligence known as the Flynn Effect, but recent studies in four economically developed countries have found that this has now ceased or gone into reverse. It seems probable that this “negative Flynn Effect” will spread to economically developing countries and the whole world will move into a period of declining genotypic and phenotypic intelligence. It is possible that “the new eugenics” of biotechnology may evolve to counteract dysgenic fertility.

So it seems the world’s population will not only increase, but intelligence would decrease.
 
What an idiotic premise. Any decent demographer knows that a woman must have an average of 2.1 children for developed nations to replenish their population to replace her, her husband, and cover for those who will not be having children and account for child mortality; the figure is higher for developing nations due to higher mortality.

Any lower than that, and the population starts to age. That’s why while smart people like these are writing in the UK, their demographics are shifting towards the elderly, like most European nations.

In some cases, there are ecoterrorists. Obviously, they haven’t pulled any Al Queda/Hamas type attacks, but they have attacked buildings and vehicles.

Since when is cutting carbon dioxide output a good thing. Think of how many trees will die because there is not enough carbon dioxide for them to breathe. :eek:

I notice that these people who make these statements are never willing to be the ones to die to help the situation. It is always the “other guy” that should die…When I see them dead with notes that they did it because they considered themselves “part of the virus” I may begin to believe that they actually believe what they were saying rather then having some hidden agenda, such as the spread of Communism, etc.

undoubtedly the reason the Catholic high schools of my youth, populated by offspring of large Catholic families, had consistently higher achievement test scores, percentage of students graduating, and percentage of students attending and completing college, than did public schools in the same districts.

:amen: Those people sound like the ones who think the world would be a better place with no people on it at all. They were born a few million years too late. :rolleyes:
