In the movie Children Of Men, women can no-longer produce babies and there was no cure. This obviously had a significant impact on society. In the movie the youngest person on earth had died and there were scenes depicting people crying. Society was in a bad way and crime was rampant. But people still went to work and funnily enough weed/drugs was still illegal, but at the same time the government was handing out suicide-kits.

What do you think would happen to society if this happened? What would happen to the social justice system? What would happen to the economy? Would people still be painters, architects, book writers, teachers, etc…?

Would it all go to hell? Would the government be handing out suicide kits? Or would society just continue as it does now?

Tell me your thoughts.

I don’t know. I’m always kinda sad when a baby is born. I know that sounds bad but I have been known to say that “I hate life and the thought of bringing another sentient being into this world is the height of immorality” … but that’s just me. The movie does sound interesting though.
It’s a good movie. I guess in your case a good qeustion you could ask is “what is the point of making babies”.

I think in that situation society would fall apart, messily and with violence.

That would suggest that most people are only being civil for the sake of the children. Do you think that’s true?

I don’t see the point really. I believe very few will make it to heaven, and I often doubt that I will too, so with that way of thinking i can only see having children as condemning them to a short life of hell on earth and a eternal life of hell in the afterlife … yeah, I live in a dark place
I wish you the greatest good, and God bless.

But if there is even a small possibility of heaven, then surely there is good to be had from existence? We all fear that we will fall short of God’s promise in the end. Nobody that takes their faith seriously can pretend not to have some anxiety about the possibility of hell. You are brutally aware that you are a sinner. That may be evidence of some hope for you contrary to what you’re thinking…

Heard an interesting talk linking the integrity of the family with Christian vitality.

Following this thinking the situation in the movie you mention would cause a sharp decline in religiousity.

That wasn’t what I meant. I think civilization would break apart because most people would be in despair, not because people see no reason to be civil other than for the kids.

If society did break down It would be evident at least that children play an important psychological role in the stability of society.
