Weave them or don’t weave them, according to how you wish to honor Our Lord.

The Church does not forbid weaving.

If some people weave them during mass, and if you think this is wrong, ignore them the same way you would ignore a crying child or a someone chatting during mass. Keep your focus on Christ and the mass as best you can.

For some of us, weaving them is a contemplative act, and we adorn our home crucifixes with roses or braids made from blessed palms. There is something beautiful about gazing at the crucifix in my bedroom and seeing a reminder of Holy Week there.

It can also be an act of discipleship.

I give blessed palm crosses to several non-Catholic friends each year. This afternoon I will drop one off to a family friend who is Baptist, but missed her own Palm Sunday services.

They are sent with instructions that, since the palm is blessed, it should be buried or burned when disposed of.

A couple of them reached out and asked this year if I would get them their palm crosses as Easter drew near, so clearly this small act is working.

Wow, lots of various view points. This year I weaved mine, my children and my husband’s during Mass. I am of Mexican heritage and have done this many times. This year was special because we entered into full communion and I was very proud to make them thus year. For myself I created a rose spray because my Patrin Saint is Rita of Cascia, my son I made a fish because his is St. Andrew, my other son I did a donkey his is St. Francis, and for my husband I made a crown of thorns because he will be entering church next year. I also folded/weaved roses, fish, crosses, boxes, and braids and other designs for the Franciscan Friar, nuns, Deacon, and other various members of my parish. NONE of them were negative about it nor corrected me. Upon leaving Mass I bought flowers and placed them with the palm roses upon my personal alter at home. I do not tear off, cut off, tape, staple, nor throw away ANY pieces for they are blessed. I am in a Mission church where less than 1℅ are Catholic so ANY beauty and majesty that I can contribute with the work of my hands for my Lord, I feel is alright.
