What do you think about 'em? Have y’all (yes, I did say ‘y’all’ :p) ever tried comparing one children’s Bible to another?

I don’t know much about the various ones available, but I think they are good for children. Make sure to get one with lots of good pictures. When I was little my grandparents bought me one with great pictures that really brought the stories to life.

I’m a parent and I teach CCE to small children, and I’ve had to compare a few. The one that has worked the best at home is The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories

My six year old begs to read from it each night. Winner!

As for the Bible I use when teaching, honestly the best response I’ve ever had was in reading aloud from a regular Bible with no pictures. I’ve even been asked to “read it again”!

The best children’s Bible is the one that speaks to your child, so that’s really going to depend on their age and maturity. Having different versions around is a good idea. The same is true for adult Bibles too, actually! 😃

Thanks for the comments. When I was a kid (which is just about a decade ago ;)) I remember reading from Mary Batchelor’s The Children’s Bible in 365 Stories (illustrated by John Haysom), the Reader’s Digest Children’s Bible Library series by Anne de Graaf (with illustrations by Jose Perez Montero), Daniel Partner’s 365 Read-Aloud Bedtime Bible Stories, as well as a couple of others I can’t really remember.

Now looking back at it as a slightly older person, I’m really interested in the fact that different authors could produce such different takes and interpretations on a single story. What say you?

Another question for y’all grown-ups: what do you think of how different children’s Bible authors handle different Biblical stories? What do you think of a children’s Bible now, reading one (if you ever read one) as an adult?
