They still have abortion for “population control”. This only means that they cannot say which child is murdered due to their gender:

BEIJING (Reuters) - A new Chinese law calls for prison terms of up to three years and fines for doctors and other health workers who assist in telling the gender of unborn babies, leading to abortions, state media said on Monday.

The legal amendment would give new teeth to a government campaign to outlaw the selective abortion of female foetuses and correct an imbalance in the ratio of boys to girls that has grown since China’s one-child policy was introduced more than 20 years ago.

There’s no way they’ll enforce that law as long as their culture maintains the preference for male children. When you screw up and have a girl the first time, they give you a consolation shot at a boy. As long as they’re still under the one child policy and as long as boys are the preferred sex, there is no way they can prevent people from killing little girls. 😦
