Hi, all! I have a question concerning when the choir is to sing at a Mass celebrated according to the 1962 Missal. After returning home from a long academic year and much-needed vacation, I was just asked to take over the music program (such as it is) for the Ecclesia Dei community here in town. I have singers lined up and repertoire selected, but I need to know when we may sing, particularly during a Low Mass.
My initial understanding was that there is to be no singing whatsoever at a Low Mass, but when I attended Mass this past Sunday I was begged to play the organ and chant along with the young woman who was currently singing for the parish. We chanted the Kyrie, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, and sang several hymns in English during the Mass in place of the Introit, Offertory, and Communion verses. Is this the correct thing to do?! Have the old laws banning music at the Low Mass been abrogated by the new liturgical laws? Any help that anyone can provide will be appreciated!
