acts17verse28.blogspot.com/2009/06/choosing-not-to-keep-baby.html is one of the most disturbing lines of thought I’ve read about in a while - a woman who decided to abort her baby because (a) she was in a demanding graduate program, (b) she wanted to do something for herself for a change, and (c) she was too attached to “the little zygote” to allow someone else to adopt the baby.

What do you SAY to someone like that?

There was a thread about this that was pretty hot last week in Secular News:

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=347744

Personally, I was surprised that her graduate program (that works with moms and babies) wouldn’t let her have time off. I have a feeling she didn’t even ask so she could take the easy way out. There were even some pro-choice people that were questioning her decision because she they didn’t think she really had grounds for an abortion. That was encouraging.

I’m not sure there is anything to say in a case like that. Sick, sick, sick.

First, this is why I’m a huge advocate for better maternity policies all around…

Second…that makes no sense…I can’t give my baby to someone else, so I’ll make sure no one gets to have it??? I know for me, I’d rather see my child alive and with someone else than dead…

The choice here is the life of her child or her education at this time. If she chooses to end this life she can NEVER get it back another pregnancy is not going to fix this mistake. However if she either seeks help from the right people or postpones her education she will never regret not taking this life. The choice was already made when she decided to get pregnant.

Many prayers are continually being prayed for her and others like this.

Hail Mary …👍

I wanted to cry when I read that article. It was really sad. I am a first year student in a “prestigious” graduate program too. If I got pregnant and I was being made to feel unwelcome and not supported, I would leave in a heartbeat if I had to. My education is important, but not more so than my child’s life!

It was beyond sad that she did not have one single friend or relative who stepped up to the plate and said, “I’ll help you with anything you need, and I will take care of your baby.” If that were my daughter I would have done anything to save her baby. But that girl’s mother seemed not to care about the life of her grandchild. This is what happens when we have a culture that is steeped in selfishness. Everyone is in it for themselves and nobody thinks or even cares about the life of that poor child. 😦

I agree, what can be said?

Each of these stories I hear tear me apart as I sure most of you. It was not until just recently that I could even think about abortion and how rampant it is because it disturbed me so badly, causing me to not want to be apart of this world. Actually, it is since finding this site that I can finally open up and face what is happening out there. I guess it is because of the quality of people on this board, I realize that there are still good people out there.

How is this a surprise?

It happens all the time - a person wants to make a decision they know is wrong, so they come up with some sort of convoluted excuse to do what they want to do rather than what they should do. If you make a logical counter argument, she’ll either make a half-hearted rebuttal or will come up with a new excuse because the excuse isn’t about determining what is the best course of action, but rather what is the justification for doing what she want to do and is going to do regardless.

It’s very, very sad, but it’s not really a surprise.

She sounds off her head/ crazy. I wouldn’t worry too much about her and is just justifying herself.

Let me see - it would be better to MURDER your baby than give it to someone who would love and care for it as their own - talk about misplaced logic. How sad. How pathetic. I hope she has a successful career!

What was worse than the original article was one of the comments from a woman who’s post seemed angry at the woman for the abortion - because after all SHE had spent x amount of dollars on infertility treatments, got pregnant, found out the baby had Down’s Syndrome, and aborted.

???

She did the same thing as the woman in the article…

… God have mercy on us. :nope:
(and I thought I had heard it ALL).

The people I know who are pro-abortion don’t think of the unborn as individuals, so in their eyes killing them is not murder. There really is nothing you can say to someone like that to change their minds.

You’d have to convince them that the unborn are people just as much as adults, but if they don’t believe in them having souls, how can you?

“Choosing not to keep the baby,” is a very false way to put it. There is no option to get or not get the baby and the baby will not go away if “not kept” - the baby gets removed if you make your choice, which means it gets killed.

On the other hand, it calls the baby a baby. I wonder how one can decide for abortion while realising it’s a baby.
