I am in RCIA and at some point I am going to have to choose my confirmation name. I had pretty much decided on Michael (the Archangel) because I admire his strength and courage fighting against the devil and defending the Church, and I feel that with his help I’ll be able to better defend the Church myself and better resist the devil.
But then a couple of days ago I began to wonder if I should choose a name for the Virgin Mary because I like how she submitted to God’s will without complaining and I would benefit from following God’s will, like Mary, and not my own.
My middle name is however Marie, so would it be possible to keep a name honouring the BVM as well as St Michael? Maybe Marie Michael, or Marie Michaela (I am female). Or I was thinking maybe I could use Virginia for the BVM and be Marie Michaela Virginia or Marie Virginia Michaela (I don’t especially like the name Marie even though it suits my first name, I would prefer it to to be Maria).
Would it be possible to choose the two names?
